Start of the Izola-Koper-Škocjanski bay cycling tour. In Izola you can find several parking lots, we suggest to start from the Ladjedelnica parking lot. From the car park, turn left and drive 300 m to the junction by the Autocamp. Turn left in the direction of Koper and continue straight ahead for 3 km along the cycle road to the first point of interest, the Rex, where a boat was sunk in World War II.
From here, drive along the former Izola-Koper Coastal Road to Žusterna, where you can enjoy views of the sea, neighbouring Italy and, if the weather is nice, the Alps.
In Žusterna, near the town beach and the water sports centre, continue along the cycle road until you reach the roundabout for bicycles. Take the second exit towards Koper.
Follow the cycle path past the recreation areas and the new park. At the park you will see a gravel parking area and a roundabout.
Continue straight on the cycle path through the roundabout to the next roundabout before which you turn right along Pristaniška Street. This is the main seafront promenade in Koper, where you will find several cafés and restaurants.
If you don't want to take a short break, continue straight to the town's harbour. There, turn right up a slight incline towards the town centre. In just over 500 metres you reach the square, where you can admire a beautiful view of the sea and Koper harbour on your left. On your right is the city centre with Tito Square.
You can choose to turn right into the street to Tito's Square or continue right along the narrow street for 50 metres past the cathedral to Brolo Square.
If you choose to pass by Tito's Square, you will find some masterpieces from the Republic of Venice: the Loggia - the city's loggia, the cathedral on the left, the Praetorian Palace on the right and the Armeria on the right.
From Brolo Square, continue straight downhill for 1 km to Vojko Embankment. You'll know you're on the right track when you see the boat-shaped shopping complex in front of you. From here, turn left to the entrance of the Port of Koper.
At the roundabout by the harbour, turn right along the main road for 200 metres. From here, go straight on past the industrial zone to the roundabout at Porsche Koper car shop. Here, cross the roundabout and turn left on the cycle road, which runs on the right along the Škocjanski zatok nature reserve After 3 km, at the roundabout before the Sermin bridge, turn right up a slight incline to Škocjanski zatok nature reserve.
Bicycles are not allowed in the Škocjan bay, so you can go for a circular walk around the bay. Here you will see various birds, herons, ducks and the indigenous cattle "Boškarin".
If you do not stop in the bay, you can continue straight ahead for 200 m. Here, be careful to turn right onto the cycle path before the motorway overpass.
Take the flyover straight on for 4 km to the bus stop in Koper. Once you reach the station, take the car park straight to Planet Koper Shopping Centre.
From here, take the main road to Koper, passing the Bonifika football stadium on the left. Before the roundabout by Banka Koper, turn left along the cycle road past the Bonifika Sports Arena to the roundabout by the car park by the market, where you were before.
Follow the same road past the town park to Žusterna and along the Coastal Road to the starting point in Izola.
